Professionalism

Professionalism requires a caring and conscious effort that strives to create professional relationships, as well as a professional atmosphere. Individuals must acquire a strong sense of professionalism in order to effectively display the desired expectations in the teaching field. Using the state provided laws and ethical guidelines, teachers can act in such a way that positively and professionally contributes to the well-being of the community or society.

Although we are labeled as teachers, we are portrayed as role models. Our behaviors are constantly being observed and assessed. The key to professionalism is sticking to the policies, monitoring progression, and constant reflection of one’s behaviors. An effective teacher is constantly self-assessing and reflecting.

Conferencing and School Involvement

As lifelong learners,  it is our moral obligation to attend conferences, seminars, and other professional learning opportunities in order to stay informed on the most recent educational research. As a contributing member of the National Education Association (NEA), the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), and the Virginia Education Association (VEA), I strive to put my best foot forward for the next generation.
